10/3/2013
(ENTERPRISE, AL) October 3, 2013— For women, fulfilling the varied roles and
responsibilities required of them – mother, daughter, caregiver, friend, mentor, volunteer or
career professional, not to mention finding time to care for themselves – is a challenge. Medical
Center Enterprise launched Healthy Woman, a free program designed just for women, to help.
Healthy Woman is designed to support a healthy mind, body and spirit for women – and the
families they care for. Medical Center Enterprise Healthy Woman program celebrated the fifth
anniversary on October 4th, at the Enterprise Civic Center with over 650 people in attendance.
The night featured door prizes, food and entertainment with performances from the Enterprise
State Community College Entertainers and keynote speaker Elizabeth Smart. The abduction of
Elizabeth Smart was one of the most followed child abduction cases of our time, and after nine
months of being held prisoner she was rescued and returned safety to her family. Elizabeth now
has become an advocate for change related to child abduction, recovery programs and national
legislation. Elizabeth speaks to groups all over the United States about overcoming adversity and
how she has had the positive attitude to move forward with her life.
Elizabeth spoke to the group of almost 700 women, about how she overcame extreme adversity
and how it can be applied to anyone that attended the event’s life to help their mental wellbeing.
Elizabeth’s book, ―My Story‖ is set to release 5 days following her appearance at the Healthy
Woman event.
Healthy Woman was created by women for women to provide up-to-date health care
information for the entire family. The program’s mission is to empower women of Enterprise
with the knowledge and confidence to make informed health care and well-being decisions for
themselves and their loved ones.
Monthly Healthy Woman presentations cover physical and emotional health care, as well as
financial well-being and spiritual development. Health care topics include pertinent information
on heart disease, diabetes, breast cancer, menopause, nutrition, osteoporosis, stress management
and life balance issues.
An advisory council composed of women throughout the Enterprise community has been
assisting the hospital in identifying topics of interest and promoting the program throughout the
area.
"Women, who make between 80 and 90 percent of all health care decisions, often balance
careers, primary and secondary families, issues with parents, and civic work,‖ said Alyssa Akins,
Healthy Woman Coordinator, Medical Center Enterprise. ―We want to help them with
information to make those decisions."
