Medical Center Enterprise is dedicated to improving the quality of life for individuals living with diabetes through care and education. The self-management program provides individuals with the skills and knowledge they need to manage the disease and avoid complications.
Diabetes Education
Learning how to manage your diabetes effectively is the key to staying healthy - that's why an important part of our care is ensuring that you have the tools and skills you need to avoid complications. The doctors, nurse educators, dietitians and other diabetes care professionals at Medical Center Enterprise provide valuable education and information to help you manage your health.
The educational program covers topics such as:
- How diabetes affects the body and treatment options
- Incorporating nutritional management and physical activity into your lifestyle
- How to read and understand nutrition labels
- Using medication(s) safely and for maximum therapeutic effectiveness
- How to monitor blood glucose and other parameters and interpret the results for self-management decision-making
- Preventing, detecting and treating chronic complications
- Developing personal strategies to address psychosocial issues and concerns
- Developing personal strategies to promote health and behavior change
Free Diabetes Education Class
Third Tuesday of each month from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m.
Fourth Thursday of each month from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m.
Talk to your primary care doctor about referring you to the class. A physician's order is required. Seating is limited, so reservations are required. For more information or to RSVP, call (334) 393-8760.
Classes are held in the Joe Herod Conference Room on the first floor of the Medical Center Enterprise Women’s Center.
