What to Know About Surgery During the Pandemic
3/26/2021
Enterprise, AL, March 26, 2021 – The thought of having surgery for a nagging injury or lingering pain can make some patients feel uneasy. But, as many experts have said over the last few months, it is extremely important not to neglect medical needs during the pandemic.
Patients can feel confident seeking the medical care they need at Medical Center Enterprise. Numerous steps have been put in place to keep patients safe during their visits, including:
- Screening all visitors for COVID-19 exposure and symptoms before they are allowed to enter.
- Visitor restrictions reduce the number of people inside to enable social distancing and keep patients and employees safe.
- Facemasks are worn by everyone inside the hospital – patients, employees and physicians.
- Caregivers are using appropriate personal protective equipment and washing hands before and after caring for every patient.
- Cleaning protocols have been enhanced with extra measures and increased frequency, including disinfection of frequently touched surfaces and all patient care areas.
- Furniture in waiting areas arranged to support social distancing.
“A delay in seeking care can lead to significant long term health issues. MCE has taken extraordinary precautions during this pandemic to keep our patients safe,” said Dr. Rory Farris of Southern Bone and Joint Specialists and Medical Center Enterprise Chief of Staff. “We are open and here to provide for the medical and surgical needs of our community.”
“Medical Center Enterprise's Surgical Services department values and appreciates each patient. We love every interaction we have with each member of our community that walks through our doors. The team members that work in our specialty always keeps patient safety at the forefront of our minds. We understand and recognize that undergoing a surgical procedure can be a scary experience; this fear is even more prominent in the midst of a global pandemic. In an effort to ease some of the fear and anxiety, we have added additional precautions and safety measures to our already rigorous safety routine. Each inpatient that has a procedure is tested for COVID-19. If a positive test is resulted, and the procedure is not emergent, the procedure is rescheduled to protect both the staff and other patients. All staff, visitors, and patients are screened for symptoms before entry to the facility and also is required to wear a face covering. Our environmental services department has taken extra measures to ensure all surfaces and materials encountered have been thoroughly sanitized. Our community’s safety, comfort, and overall well-being always remains the main focus of Medical Center Enterprise’s Surgical Services Staff. Some members of our community have delayed procedures due to the fear surrounding the unknown that COVID-19 presents. I want those people to know we will continue to take all of the precautions necessary to keep our patients (and their families) as safe as possible.” – Rebekah Colon, Surgical Services Director.
Each inpatient and outpatient may have two people to be the visitor/caregiver.
